Over the years I’ve grown out of quite a few friendships, ones that I personally thought were going to last a lifetime; but as you get older it’s easy to drift apart. There’s one friend who has stuck around since 2007 and is currently my longest-running friendship (I moved a lot as a child.)
She just gets me, and I sincerely hope that our friendship lasts for many more years to come. Oh, and I bet you’re wondering the relevance to this… well, she so kindly gifted me the Herbivore True Blue Skin Clarifying Duo for Christmas.
Isn’t she great? You can’t have her. She’s mine.
Herbivore True Blue Skin Clarifying Duo
Behind the Brand:
Herbivore Botanicals was founded by a couple, Julia and Alex in 2011. Their products are BS-free; meaning you won’t find any fillers. They also pride themselves on being natural, plant-based and environmentally-friendly with their recyclable packaging.
About the Herbivore True Blue Skin Clarifying Duo $42.00 CAD
Herbivore Botanicals retails at most Sephora stores, so it’s one of the few natural brands currently available there.
This Herbivore True Blue Skin Clarifying Duo (The Blue Tansy Face mask and Lapis Facial Oil) are great for any skin type. Especially if you find yourself battling with blemishes, redness and pronounced pores.
Blue Tansy Mask Key Ingredients
White Willow Bark
White Willow Bark is a natural BHA (Beta hydroxy Acid) which works similarly to Salicylic acid. Essentially what this does is help to remove the top layer of skin and exfoliate gently.
Fruit Enzymes
Fruit enzymes from Papaya and Pineapple are high in AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) which also help in exfoliating.
Blue Tansy Oil
This ingredient is high in Azulene, which is what provides the mask and the facial oil this gorgeous blue hue. Blue Tansy oil is also a great anti-inflammatory ingredient and helps to soothe irritated skin.
Aloe leaf
Naturally rich in Salycylic acid, Aloe Leaf is another ingredient that will help to decongest pores. Aloe also has great anti-inflammatory properties as well which will help reduce redness and irritation.
My Thoughts on the Herbivore Botanicals Blue Tansy Mask ($60.00 CAD)
To be honest, I have been eyeing this product up for a while now. And I’m so glad I had the opportunity to try it out because it is everything I look for in a face mask.
Let’s start with the few downsides first; the jar format is gorgeous but not entirely practical. I don’t really enjoy dipping my fingers in and feeling like I am contaminating the product with each use. Not a huge deal, but a bit of a bummer.
Second, I find that for the first few minutes this mask burns a lot. But after the initial few minutes of stinging it feels refreshing.
Third, the price. It’s a lot of money. But in my opinion skincare is an investment and if you’re only using this once or twice a week it’s not a terrible value. Personally, I’ve been using this once a week maximum after reading Jenny’s post on the problems with over exfoliating.
Other than those three things, I am in love with this.
That’s a pretty rare thing for me to say. Thankfully after three months of use the Blue Tansy Face Mask I have is nowhere near empty.
It has seriously helped my postpartum-hormonal skin. I can’t rave about it enough if you are having weird hormonal breakouts as well.
Lapis Facial Oil Key Ingredients
Blue Tansy oil
This ingredient is high in Azulene, which is what provides the mask and the facial oil this gorgeous blue hue. Blue Tansy oil is also a great anti-inflammatory ingredient and helps to soothe irritated skin.
Kukui Nut Oil
Kukui Nut Oil is naturally rich in linoleic acid which can help balance the skin’s oil production. It also helps to moisturize.
Jojoba Oil
Another natural oil which is very similar to the skin’s naturally occurring oils. This is also a fantastic moisturizing ingredient as well. Sometimes I like to apply Jojoba Oil on it’s own if I find that my skin has been more sensitive/irritated.
Squalane
I cannot say how amazing this moisturizing oil is! It absorbs quickly and leaves no residue on the skin. Another oil I will use on it’s own if I find that my skin has been super dry.
Jasmine Sambac Oil
Provides a light floral scent, but it’s also great for keeping the skin hydrated.
My thoughts on the Herbivore Botanicals Lapis Facial Oil ($90.00 CAD)
I wish I didn’t like this so much because it’s so freaking expensive. But yet again, skincare is an investment.
If you suffer from hormonal acne or blemishes of any kind this product seriously works wonders. Not only does it help to balance the natural sebum production in the skin, but hydrates at the same time. A definite must during these dry-winter months.
I wish I’d had this when I was a teenager…
Overall, I’m totally head over heels in love with these products. I cannot thank my best friend enough for gifting me these products! Herbivore Botanicals creates some seriously fantastic skincare products and I cannot wait to try out more of them. (But my wallet can!)
